OASIS Afterschool Program

What is OASIS?

OASIS stands for Opportunities and Supports in School. OASIS offers programming after school and over the summer.

This programming includes a variety of engaging activities aimed to provide a safe place for students to get help with their schoolwork, participate in engaging activities with their peers, and have an opportunity to try new experiences. Most of our programs are led by our school-day teachers or other professionals in their respective industry.

OASIS is free and open to all students in the Boquet Valley Central School District. To participate, caregivers must register their students. You can that do by finding the form on this page to register for the appropriate location’s programs.

If you have any questions about the registration process or need a printed form mailed to you, contact Marcail Miller at mmiller@boquetvalleycsd.org or 518-873-6371 ext. 2405.

Mondays: Lego Stop Motion
*Grades 3-5 only.*
This program will cover an intro into stop motion and brainstorming, creating a storyboard, creation of setting a background, film production and editing. This group is welcoming of all levels.

Mondays: Erasure Poetry
*Grades 3-5 only.*
Students in grades 3–5 will explore erasure poetry, a creative form of writing where poets select and “erase” words from an existing text to create a brand-new poem. Through guided, hands-on activities, students will learn how to choose words thoughtfully, experiment with meaning, and express themselves in a fun, supportive environment. The program builds creativity, reading skills, and confidence—no prior poetry experience needed.

Tuesdays: Pottery
*This is for grades 3-5 only.*
Join Mr. Caldwell to work on learning more about pottery or to continue developing your potter skills. Max of 8 students.

Tuesdays: Free Swim
*This is for grades 3-5 only.*
Dive into our Free Swim program! Students in grades 3–5 can enjoy open swim time with friends while building strength and confidence in the water. All participants must already know how to swim and will take a quick swim test on the first day—then each program day will feature a stroke of the day to help swimmers improve their technique and skills.

Wednesdays: Ice Skating
*This is for grades 3-5 only.*
Are you ready to feel the brisk fresh air in your face as you sharpen your ice skating skills? Bring your skates and join Mrs. Meacham-Hughes on Wednesdays! We are going to utilize the Ballard Park ice skating rink. Not sure where to store your skates? There will be an 8 student limit as this activity is off campus.

Wednesdays: Outdoor Adventure
*This is for grades 3-5 only.*
The Outdoor Adventure program invites kids to explore the beauty of nature through a variety of engaging activities with Champlain Area Trails. Participants will have the opportunity to snowshoe across the Champlain Valley, discover exciting trails, and enjoy fun outdoor games. Kids will learn essential outdoor skills, hike some of the CATS trails, and play in winter conditions. This program includes two days of going off site which requires a permission slip.

Wednesdays: Strings
*This is for grades 4-5 only.*
This class is intended for students who are already enrolled in the 4th/5th Grade Strings program at Lake View and who currently receive small-group string lessons during the school day. This course is a continuation of the Large Group Strings class previously held on Wednesdays, now offered through OASIS. Students will continue developing foundational bow-to-strings (“hands together”) technique, ensemble skills, and musical fluency appropriate for students beyond the beginner level. Students not currently enrolled in the Lake View Strings program may register for a separate beginner strings class which may be offered in future OASIS sessions 6 and or 7 on a different day of the week. These students will be introduced to bow hold and beginner string skills, working parallel to, but not replacing, the instruction of more experienced string students. Instrument availability is limited. BYOC or BYOV (Bring Your Own Cello or Violin) is strongly encouraged. They can be rented (per month) through Rawson Violins at Champlain Centre. I recommend a 1/4 size instrument.

Thursdays: Drama 101
*This is for grades 3-5 only.*
We are offering a Drama 101 experience for students interested in trying this program out. Come learn all the fun and exciting ways to  grow your confidence on the stage.

Thursdays: 4-H Exploratory Animal Science
*This is for grades 3-5 only.*
Join this program to participate, explore, and examine animals through dissections, animal profiles, and creative projects. This will include, but is not limited to frogs, crayfish, and marine animals.
